Most people think riot squad officer Taylor Jameson is an asshole. Little do they know his apparent indifference stems from having a meddlesome family always butting into his business. And little does Taylor know he’s about to stumble into a situation that’ll make indifference impossible.
When everything goes horribly wrong at a political rally on a harbour ferry, Taylor encounters Sietta Salisbury. The son of a wealthy politician, Sietta is a revered—but presumed dead—musician, and an enigma who is so strange, Taylor is compelled to look into his background. What he discovers draws him into a bizarre mess of prisoners, politics, and attempted murder that makes him realise what he’s been missing.
Falling in love isn’t hard. Trying to convince someone else you’re worth loving despite your crazy family and the people trying to kill you? That’s a whole other can of worms.

Sometimes I want to read angst and cry my eyes out on the way to the HEA. Sometimes I want to laugh as the characters fall in love. This book is definitely the latter. Early in the book, I decided that the emotional stuff (and there would be lots) happened "off-camera" and to just enjoy the read.Humor is subjective, and this author hit my funny bone. So many of the brotherly snarky/funny exchanges reminded me of me and my sister, lol. That said, there were a couple of times I cringed, even though I'm from a family of nurses and dark humor is the norm, especially in times of stress.
At its core, this story is about a loving, giving, wonderfully zany, large family, and one of the sons finding his soulmate. I recommend this book and will watch for more from this writer!
(One last comment, as I'm writing this... I can easily imagine this story told by my favorite writers of angst and it would be a beautiful, yet brutal, romance with few lighthearted moments sprinkled throughout. I think when the angst, or the comedy, are this high, it's one or the other.)

Fishy Riot edition by Lindsey Black Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed this book. I'll admit when it opened it took me a bit to get used to the author's style. I never read Lindsey Black before so I knew this was a possibility. But I caught on quickly and just enjoyed the ride.
There are so many characters in this book. We have Taylor, who is an identical twin with Clay. Both are part of the Riot Squad. It's how Taylor meets Sietta and how the insanity begins. Of course, you know the second you meet Sietta that something is wrong. You also know that Taylor isn't one to sit on his butt and ignore it.
What Sietta has endured in his life is beyond heartbreaking. Truly heartbreaking. And if it wasn't for Micah, Sietta's younger brother, lord only knows if Sietta would have been saved.
Taylor's family is insane. Really insane. From all the brothers and sisters to the niece and nephew. Of course, Sietta and Micah love them and are brought into the fold without question. There were times I was shocked at the family's antics but as you read on and see them all together many times, it's natural.
Clay and Taylor's twin thing wasn't intuition or anything. They have been inseparable their whole lives but they didn't need it. It just was. Of course, Clay is in a relationship and then Tay meets Si and things get different.
This wasn't so much a mystery as it was suspenseful at times, full of humor and insanity, and some serious action.
It's a great entertaining read!
LOVED IT
I am a heavy and very avid reader of the MM Genre, so I am always hunting for books especially from new authors. Even more so from a fellow Australian. Whilst a lot of readers loved this story, sadly on this one for me, it just didn't "fit" me. Which is fine. I have very, very few books that are on my DNF list and I really struggle sometimes to not put books on there but I will say this book came very close to going to the hidden garden of books I never want to see again. Overall the concept of the story was good however it is very heavily documented about the Riot Squad and it's processes to the point I found it boring and started to skip through those sections. But I also found the story line to be a bit disjointed. There's this whole insta love connection between Taylor and Sietta which is fine as I have enjoyed that immensely in other stories. I can't seem to explain it but the book felt "jumpy" to me and even though there is supposed to be humor there, it fell flat to me and the whole family situation just seemed stupid. And how perfect is this family anyway? All of them are involved in the community somehow! I am not saying I won't read any future work from this author but for now, I will move only steadily still searching for those books that grab my heart.
I read the sample and I was hooked. I read this book in one day. I just couldn't put it down. This really is a great and fun book.
Funny and occasionally charming, with refreshingly believable characters. I really enjoyed this book, and I'm looking forward to more from this author!
Identical twin brothers whose jobs on the Riot Squad lead them into some pretty crazy situations. One brother is outgoing and the other is a definitely not, in fact he alienates people on purpose. It's the only defense he has against his crazy, funny, nosy family and friends; most of whom are in public service like he is. He meets a man wrapped up in a mystery and discovers love. I liked this book, the author packed a lot into it; it has action, mystery, romance, humor and the antics of a loving crazy family. I thank the author and encourage her to continue stortelling.
So I'm very torn about this book because the protagonist it's effectively an a**h**e. And the issue with a**h**es and their love, is that you're not quite sure what you did to earn their love but you know that as quickly as you earned it you can lose it.
It's fickle stuff in real life, even if in this book it's obviously going to be 5ever.
This being said I loved this book - it starts a bit messily and picks up as soon as the MC starts showing love for his family and the RI. And it just improves twist and turns, sassiness for miles, everyone being Very Australian TM. And frankly the two protagonists are both messed up and fit into each other neatly and - ugh. It was such a satisfying read
